Nina Klein
Nina studied history and German literature (M.A.) in Konstanz, Germany and Wellesley, USA, and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Nina specialized in memory studies and published her thesis on “The Polish memory of Auschwitz. An analysis of the permanent exhibition at the national museum Auschwitz-Birkenau“ in 1999. She worked with museums (research, education) and as a print and radio journalist in Germany for over ten years before moving to Poland in 2002. There, she was director of a training programme for radio journalists, commissioned by the German Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa). Afterwards, she worked as the director of the German Book Information Centre (2004-2007) in Warsaw. She joined the Frankfurt Book Fair team in 2008 as Director of Press and Public Relations. Since 2012, Nina has been a communications and business development consultant in Brussels and Frankfurt, specialising in innovation in digital publishing and adjacent creative sectors. She has published numerous articles and two e-books on these topics, with a focus on start-ups and new business models in publishing. Her clients include trade associations, festivals and public sector institutions, such as the European Commission. As an associate partner of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Nina is responsible for business development and innovation strategies, with a particular focus on the EU. In 2017, she launched THE ARTS+ Innovation Summit at THE ARTS+, a new business festival for the creative sectors. The Summit aims to strengthen the policy stakeholder dialogue, and to establish a supranational network of innovation support for the creative sectors. Nina has participated in EU projects such as “Technology and Innovation in Smart Publishing” (TISP) and ALDUS – European Book Fairs’ Network, and she is a member of the Executive Group of the European Technology Platform New European Media (NEM).
